The Tamaraw (Bubalus
mindorenis) is the largest land mammal in the country and
one of the most critically endangered species in the world.
Found only on the Island of Mindoro, the Tamaraw is historically
known to occur in the ranges of Mt. Halcon-Eagle Pass (Oriental
& Occidental Mindoro), Mts. Iglit-Baco National Park (Oriental
and Occidental Mindoro), F.B. Harrison Game Refuge and Bird
Sanctuary (Occidental Mindoro), and Mt. Calavite Wildlife
Sanctuary (Occidental Mindoro).
The project started in 1988 to
conserve, protect and manage the Tamaraw.
Accomplishments:

Participated in
the Joint Planning Workshop with MIMAROPA for the preparation of
the TCP Work and Financial Plan for CY 2008
·
Participated in
the Annual Tamaraw Count held in April 2008 – 263 tamaraws
were sighted in the wild
